Nantwich Primary Academy's art curriculum aims to inspire creativity in pupils, promoting confidence and enjoyment that lasts a lifetime. Our curriculum is built around essential knowledge, understanding, and key skills, ensuring clear continuity and progress across all year groups.

 

Pupils explore texture, colour, shape, form, and space, developing their imagination and creativity through the investigation of materials and processes. They become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art, craft, and design techniques, and learn to evaluate and analyze creative works using the language of art.

 

Pupils also study great artists, craft makers, and designers,

and gain an understanding of the historical and cultural

development of their art forms. The curriculum develops

pupils' cultural capital and enriches their experiences,

promoting creative and practical responses,

imaginative risk-taking, and

critical thinking.

Art embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity. Art teaching at Nantwich Primary Academy is designed to inspire personal expression, cultural understanding, creative and practical responses and to promote imaginative risk taking.

 

The art education that we deliver equips pupils with the knowledge and skills to experiment, create and refine their own works of art, craft and design. 

As pupils progress through Nantwich Primary Academy, they become able to think creatively and critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of the many disciplines within art, craft and design and how they shape their history and future. This enables pupils to contribute as confident citizens and future professionals to the culture, creativity, economic success and emotional wellbeing of our society. The curriculum develops pupils’ cultural capital, through providing enriching experiences.

Progression Pathway

An art progression pathway outlines a structured learning journey for students, ensuring the development of essential skills and knowledge in line with the Access Art scheme of work. It focuses on three core areas: artistic techniques, creative expression, and visual literacy.

The pathway helps educators deliver a balanced and comprehensive curriculum that builds upon previous learning, fosters imagination and innovation, and prepares students for future academic and professional success in the arts. By offering a clear, step-by-step framework, the progression pathway supports consistent, high-quality art education across all key stages.
