Welcome back to the Summer term! We are very excited to be start the new term with some amazing themes!
Spellings will be tested on a Friday.
We will be having two sessions of PE each week, swimming will be on Wednesdays and PE will be on Fridays. Children will need to be in a full, correct PE kit on both days and swimming kits will need to be brought in,

This Summer term we will be visiting the continent of South America with our new text "Rain Player". This is a captivating tale set against the backdrop of the lush Amazon rainforest. Written by David Wisniewski, the story follows the journey of a young indigenous boy with a special gift for playing the sacred music of his people on the pan flute.
He challenges the powerful rain god Chac, in a bid to end a terrible draught. But will he prevail?
We can't wait to find out....
In SPaG, we will continue to developing our grammar and punctuation, using pronouns, adverbials and modal verbs, as well as practising our use of tense.
Maths
This term in maths, Year 5 students will tackle key concepts to enhance their mathematical skills. Beginning with area and perimeter, they'll engage in practical problem-solving to solidify foundational skills. We will then move on to looking at statistics, applying our knowledge to real-world scenarios. by using timetables and schedules.
Finally, we'll investigate shape and space, investigating properties of both 2d and 3d shapes before learning about and using co-ordinates and directions.

Exciting news! Our Year 5 science unit, "Exploring Matter and Materials," is about to kick off! In this adventure, we're diving deep into the world of stuff around us, from solids to liquids to gases. We will be doing cool experiments, checking out how things change and even thinking about how our choices affect the environment.
It's all about hands-on learning and having a blast while we explore together. Get ready for some serious fun and learning!

This term, in Year 5, we will be embarking on an exciting journey through the ancient Maya civilization! We will uncover Maya history, marvel at awe-inspiring structures like pyramids, and explore how Maya society worked.
By checking out timelines,we will see when things happened, and by studying the buildings the Maya crafted, we will get a glimpse into their incredible architectural skills. Plus, we will learn all about the different roles people played in Maya communities.
As we delve deeper, we will also explore the geography of the Maya region, from the dense rainforests to the sprawling cities, gaining a better understanding of how the environment shaped Maya life. It's like taking a thrilling adventure back in time!
