Improving Governance

"What do Governors do?"

Governors appoint the head teacher and deputy headteacher. In some schools the site is owned by the Local Governing Committee. It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, and it is governors who work with the headteacher to make the tough decisions about balancing resources.

"What are the roles and responsibilities of school governors?"

Roles and responsibilities. Governors work as a team. They are responsible for making sure the school provides a good quality education for all pupils. Raising educational standards in school is a key priority. ... They do this together with the head teacher,

who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school.
