Have we got some fantastic texts that we are looking at this year!
We will be starting with the fantastic book 'Letter's from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll. With its historical setting in World War 2, we will be finding all about the adventures of Olive and Cliff as they experience evacuation and the move from London to the seaside.
We will be working especially hard on creating effective dialogue and building tension within our writing.
In maths, we will be continuing to work on our basic skills. We will start this term with some work on Place Value and with working with numbers over 1 million.
We will then move on to calculations, before consolidating and building on our work on fractions and decimals.
To help with our basic skills we will be enjoying some Maths Ninja tasks as well as becoming Times Table Rock Stars.
We are so lucky in Year 6 to have some truly amazing topics!
We start the term finding out about World War 2 and the effect of the war both at home and abroad. We will learn about Winston Churchill and have the opportunity to study his speeches in depth. We will work with timelines and look at the major events of the war and how the European map changed throughout its course.
Finally we will have the chance to find out what it was like to be a child during the war - the experience of evacuation and going to school in wartime.
